AHA4AUTISM
INTRODUCTION
Starting from already existing needs on intervention in autistic people in their ageing stage, and with existing practices at local level that do not transcend and do not generate knowledge to be shared with other countries, the project’s objective is to make a good practices exchange identified by each one of the partners at local, regional or national level.
At present, the bibliography and studies on which to base interventions are scarce, as they have focused on the medical aspects and not so much on the processes of support and accompaniment from the social sphere. Thus, the professional intervention needs are faced with the scenario of an increasingly ageing population, which coincides with the first diagnoses coincides with the first diagnoses at a general European level, dating back to the 1980s.
Institutions should see this as an opportunity to rethink and clarify work objectives that guarantee the active ageing autistic people and to respond to the emerging needs of the process, given that the prevalence of autism is increasing every day, with a prevalence of 1-2% of the population, depending on the studies per country.
